All About Mercia Children Services

Our Core Values
We work to provide a caring and cosy home environment for young people so they can live in conditions where they receive the greatest physical and emotional care possible.

In all of our homes, we aspire to:

-
Establish a setting that offers a caring and nurturing atmosphere, reflecting many of the good aspects of a typical family home.
-
Create an environment where the person is respected and accepted for who they are a distinct individual with a distinct personality, history, and future.
-
Create an atmosphere that will allow youth to receive excellent mental and physical care that will support their positive personal growth.
-
Encourage the development of personal relationships, as these lead to the growth of mutual respect, trust, and self-worth awareness.
-
Encourage the creation of an atmosphere where youth can learn to appreciate and value others despite their differences.
About us
Over the past years, Mercia Children Services has gained recognition within the residential childcare sector. We take great satisfaction in our capacity to understand and provide holistic, individualised care for young people, irrespective of their background, culture, ability, or religion.

We offer two modest homes that can house two to four young people each, located in the North West of England. Our homes provide a loving, caring family atmosphere that encourages development and constructive personal progress. We want every young person to feel that their home is more than just a place where they are staying.

Our homes.
Both of our homes, Rosebank and The Hollies are registered Children’s Homes for up to 4 young people, who may exhibit emotional or behavioural difficulties (EBD). The homes offer short, medium, or long-term residential placements for young people aged 8 to 17 years of age.
We aim to provide a period of stability to allow young people to reflect on their difficulties and make future plans, based on a comprehensive assessment of their social, emotional/behavioural, physical and educational needs and a dynamic care plan, alongside parents, agencies and significant others. The homes have dedicated staff teams who are responsible for the effective care and development of the young people. The teams are ambitious and nurturing which enables them to promote children’s educational learning and their ambitions for the future.
Therapeutic care
Mercia Children Services stands as a beacon of therapeutic care for children in need, providing a nurturing and supportive environment that focuses on their emotional, mental health, and neurodevelopmental well-being. At the heart of this commitment is Dr. George Harris, a distinguished Clinical Psychologist and the Director of GH Psychology Ltd. Dr. Harris brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Mercia Children Services, contributing significantly to the welfare of the children under its care.

Our Clinical Psychologist
Our clinician, Dr George Harris is a Chartered Psychologists with HCPC registration. Integrated psychological services are delivered to the home, including consultancy for residential staff, training and support for staff teams, liaison with external agencies (e.g. social services, CAMHS) and systematic outcomes monitoring.
Our therapeutic model is centred around the PACE approach, which provides a therapeutic parenting framework to enable staff to emotionally connect with young people through Playfulness, Acceptance Curiosity and Empathy. PACE has been specifically designed for carers parenting children who have experienced attachment difficulties, trauma, loss and/or separation early in their life. Our staff are trained in attachment and trauma as part of their Induction training.
Staff also receive the ‘Introduction to PACE’ training. This is followed up with workshop’s on PACE. This training aims enable staff to develop a greater understanding of the impact of early loss and developmental trauma and attachment difficulties. Staff are trained in the PACE model of therapeutic parenting which provides a framework for staff to help them to build secure and safe relationships with the young people, adopting a parenting approach which is sensitive to the trauma and attachment-based difficulties.
We accomplish our goals by:
-
Providing a home where every young person feels safe, loved, secure, and shielded from harm.
-
Supporting and fostering each young person's intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth.
-
Offering chances that will help every young person grow in confidence.
-
Helping each child transition from foster care to independent living and preparing them for this change.

"Staff members prioritise the aspirations of the children and assist them in realising their objectives. It is successfully supported for young people to acquire independence skills at a speed that suits them."
